July l2, 2005 Emeritus College l227 2nd St. Santa Monica, Ca. 90404 Attn: Marilyn Hall, I am applying to teach painting through
Emeritus College. Attached is a
short resume and a page from the Guild Sourcebook, showing one of my
watercolors. If you would like, you
can also view a large group of watercolors on one of my websites - "GlassUmbrella.Com" Briefly, I have a teaching degree from Univ. of
Wisconsin, l954, and a BFA and MFA from Otis Art Institute, l974. I have taught for most of my life,
one way or another - all subjects, all grades, and all ages. When a group from Emeritus came though my last
show at BGH Gallery at Bergamot, they were all entranced by my Santa Monica
watercolors. The technique that I used utilizes the projector, and is done in what I call my "coloring book" technique. By that I mean that the drawing is done from a slide or photo through the projector, and then the painting is done in any style the artist wishes. I have taught this to many, many people over the years, and have had great results with this technique. The main problem people have in coming to art is a fear of drawing. This solves that situation. I always want my students to have instant success, especially young children and seniors, and this is one of the best ways. When they understand that professional artists use all kinds of aids, it helps them feel confident and realize that they are not doing something wrong by using "tools". Even Leonardo used a "camera obscura". I have a studio on the Boardwalk across from the
Merry-Go-Round, and would teach from there.
I am looking forward to hearing from you, either by email (Infinitystudio@aol.com)
or by phone (310-392-5042. Sincerely, Susan Weinberg |
