We are still quite busy at Infinity Studio. Among other things we are applying for a grant that, if awarded, will facilitate Susan's new work. She has started preparation for her new Santa Monica series of watercolors which we hope to bring out in book and print form. Susan is also embarking on a new "Hawaiian life and landscape" project. You will be hearing about this in these pages very soon. Meanwhile teaching remains so important to her that Susan wants to share some of her students work. So without further ado and in appreciation of her students we are pleased to be showcasing some of their work at Infinity Studio. Pieces will be added to this page on a regular basis. This online show began toward the end of March in 2010 and is scheduled to run for an indefinite period. Class photos will soon be presented that should prove interesting to you. We have a number of student's paintings and watercolors that you will no doubt enjoy. All of us here at Infinity Studio are pleased to begin this presentation.
Drew Hill Celebrity Artist
Last year Drew Hill held the position of artist in residence at Infinity Studio. We hosted his work in these pages until he established his own web site. He was working with Susan on a number of works, including his Jimmi Hendrix Blue Series, until mid November, 2009. We capped of this three month collaboration with a private show. Artists such as Bernard Hoyes joined us to celebrate the successful production of an amazing body of work that will shortly be available in a wide range of formats. We will present more information about this very soon. Some of the photos from the show are presented here. Click to see an enlarged photo. Artists Profile Drew was born on October 5, 1956 in Newnan, Georgia, a city of approximately 27,000 residents with small-town charm, historic character, and friendly people. During his years at Georgia Tech he played wide receiver and in 1979 was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams. Drew played in 14 NFL seasons between 1979 and 1993. He also played with the Houston Oilers and was twice an All-Pro. He also made it to the Super Bowl. Drew retired from the Atlanta Falcons in 1993 and took up a new career, as an artist. Previously his would paint while sitting on the bench during games now he intends to work at this passion full time. For 35 years,
Drew has been immortalizing his heroes on canvas. These include musicians such
as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimi Hendrix, Janet Jackson Michael Jackson,
Bob Marley and Barbra Streisand. Included among his sports heros are Jim Brown,
Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Serena Williams. Although he has never received formal training Drew is a very
gifted artist. Even Supreme Court Justice Marshall owns one of his paintings. Being
self taught he has not exhibited but was able to show in Southern California as
an artist in residence here at Infinity Studio. Drew’s life experience has been rich and has supplied many
themes for his work. Having been a
nightclub owner and appearing in movies has brought him into contact with many
celebrities. Burt Reynolds, Marvin Gaye, Muhammad Ali, and Richard Pryor all
counted him as a friend. An artist needs to have a visceral feeling about his work. The
school of hard knocks can teach some powerful lesions. Drug abuse, alcohol
addiction and misuse of steroids is not uncommon in the world of sports. In
Drew’s case he has harnessed this power and transferred it into his paintings.
He is interested in African themes and the different ways that young people
enter adulthood. Having both lived in mansions and felt the cold of the streets
he is unusually able to comprehend the vastness of the human experience and this
is reflected in his work. It may seem strange for a football star to put down the pig skin and take up the paint brush full time but Drew Hill, now 53 years old, has something he wants to say. He says it passionately in paint on canvas. The work he produced while at Infinity Studio, during his collaboration with Susan, is now available in book form and giclee prints. You can order the prints in standard and custom sizes. Contact us for the particulars. Click here to have a look at these pieces and see for yourself the amazing way Drew can capture the essence of his sports heroes and the musical artists that have done so much to improve his world. Other life themes are highlighted here but you must see for yourself to understand what we at Infinity Studio see in them. Another book is in production now. Details will be forthcoming.
The work of more amazing artists will soon be featured here so check us out often. |
